An Independent councillor in Cork has raised concerns about the lack of ticket agents available at the city’s bus station, particularly for elderly bus users who are not internet-savvy. The councillor received a complaint from a senior citizen who was unable to use her free travel pass as there was no physical person at the bus station to assist her. She was told to ask a passing member of the public to book a ticket online, which left her without a seat on the bus. Bus Éireann apologised for the poor service and explained that free travel-pass users can book a ticket online or use in-station ticket-vending machines, with staff available to assist if needed. Advance booking is recommended for busy times or for those travelling to the airport.
