Corinthians Sets Transfer Record: Exceeds R$115 million in Player Signings

Even before taking office as president of the Corinthians – what will happen on January 2nd – Augusto Melo is already fulfilling his promise to have an aggressive stance in the football market. Timão exceeds the R$115 million mark in player signings in this transfer window. And he wants more.

The club’s biggest investment to date was to acquire defender Lucas Veríssimo, who was on loan from Benfica, from Portugal, until June 2024. Corinthians agreed to pay 8 million euros (around R$43 million) for the defender.

Veríssimo’s case symbolizes the strategy adopted by the black and white board in the search for reinforcements: stretching payment deadlines. Timão will pay Benfica in three installments, in October 2024, 2025 and 2026.

Other operations closed in this window will also be paid in installments.

Check out the investments made by Corinthians in this window:

  • Lucas Veríssimo – 8 million euros (around R$43 million);
  • Felix Torres US$5.5 million plus target bonuses (R$26.6 million);
  • Wounds – 2.5 million euros (R$ 13.4 million);
  • Maycon – 500 thousand euros (R$ 2.7 million);
  • Rodrigo Garro – between 6 and 7 million dollars (around R$32 million and R$37 million).

O Corinthians there is still an agreement with three athletes who were at the end of their contract and did not demand the purchase of economic rights, just payment of gloves: the defender Adriano Martins and the left-backs Hugo e Diego Palácios.

Timão enters 2024 with an eye on more players, especially for the attacking sector. The club has bold dreams, like Gabigol, from Flamengo, and is still looking for another number 10 and a right-back to shadow Fagner.

According to the black and white leadership, the signings are being made without harming the financial health of the club, which continues to have a high debt, in the region of R$900 million (not counting the financing of Neo Química Arena).

Market Central: Corinthians forwards sale of Moscardo

O Corinthians counts on the inflow of money from the sale of Moscardo. The 18-year-old midfielder was traded to Paris Saint-Germain for 20 million euros (approximately R$108 million). The French will also pay in installments, but Timão will try to advance the total value of the transfer with financial institutions.

Furthermore, the club has amounts to receive from the sale of other athletes, such as Murilo, traded in the middle of the year with Nottingham Forest, from England, and Felipe, recently sold to Cercle Brugge, from Belgium.

Last Friday, the Corinthians leadership, still under the command of President Duilio Monteiro Alves, issued an official note in which they promised to soon settle financial disputes with athletes. According to the statement, the management “will immediately provide effective resources for the new management that will take over in January in the order of R$100 million.”
