A whole battery of tests to separate the flagship of the Comet Lake-S from that of the Ryzen 3000.

At the beginning of the month, a video of the Core i5-10400 proven on Cinebench, GTA V and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey from TecLab leaked on bilibili. Now it’s the processor standard bearer Comet Lake-S, the Core i9-10900K, to undergo the same type of treatment. The 10-core and 20-threaded model has been subjected to several tests on CineBench R15 and R20, 3D Mark or some games (not identified due to our total ignorance of Mandarin). For comparison, the other competitors in the running are Ryzen 9 3900X and Ryzen 3950X.
On paper, the two AMD processors are better armed than the Intel Core. Indeed, they embed respectively 12 cores / 24 threads and 16 cores / 32 threads. TecLab tested the three chips by combining them with an NVIDIA RTX 2080 Ti graphics card. The Core i9-10900K takes place on a Z490 motherboard. The Ryzen 9 3900X and Ryzen 3950X, on an X570 motherboard. The three processors operate with 16 GB of memory.

A Core i9-10900K at the level, but greedy
Despite its smaller number of cores, the Core i9-10900K is neck and neck with the Ryzen 9 3900X and sometimes even ahead. Its ability to reach 5.3 GHz on a core and 4.9 GHz on all of its hearts plays in its favor. Logically, in multi-threaded applications, the Ryzen 9 3950X takes off thanks to its 16 cores.
However, in terms of consumption and energy efficiency, AMD’s chips are doing better than Intel’s. Despite its TDP of 125W, it has a consumption peak of 338W. A value of only 306W for the Ryzen 3950X.

Finally, the last criterion to take into consideration, and not least, that of price. Currently, a Ryzen 9 3950X is trading around 870 euros. A Ryzen 9 3900X, 500 euros. It is estimated that the Core i9-10900K will be found in stores at an inclusive price between 570 and 600 euros.
