Lionel Messi won the first trophy of his career with the Argentina national team on Saturday when he lifted the Copa America after the 1-0 victory over Brazil in the final at the Maracana.
A relief for the ‘Pulga’ which had celebrated the first of its 150 selections with the Albiceleste on August 17, 2005.
“The happiness I feel is inexplicable,” Messi responded. “I needed to win something in the national team to get rid of this thorn in the side. For many years, I was close to achieving it, but I knew it was going to turn in the right direction. I’m grateful to God for giving me this moment against Brazil, who were playing at home. ”

At 34, Messi wore the Albiceleste throughout a tournament where he was voted best player with four goals and five assists. “I immediately thought of my family who suffered often, sometimes more than me. When we went on vacation, the first few days were always sad. This time it will be different. ”
The ‘Pulga’ also praised the work of their teammates who helped Argentina win their first major trophy since the 1993 Copa America. “I told them they are the future of the team and I was right. Without a club after the end of his contract with FC Barcelona, Messi seems close to extending with the Catalan club in the coming days.
