Coordinating Ministry: the Community plays a strategic role in controlling the PTM

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Coordination Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) said the community has a strategic role in efforts to control noncommunicable diseases (PTMs).

“The community has a strategic role in preventing and combating noncommunicable diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and other noncommunicable diseases,” said the Deputy for Coordinating Health Quality Improvement and Population Development at the coordinating ministry for human development and culture Agus Suprapto when contacted by Jakarta on Wednesday.

For this, Agus said, the government continues to mobilize and empower the community in the prevention and overcoming of PTM risk factors as part of the strategy for the control of noncommunicable diseases.

“In addition, the government also continues to improve public access to services for early detection and management of risk factors for noncommunicable diseases,” he said.

The government, Agus said, also continues to develop and strengthen the epidemiological surveillance, monitoring and information system relating to noncommunicable diseases.

“Funding for the control of risk factors for noncommunicable diseases also continues to increase,” he said.

Agus added that socialization and education about efforts to prevent noncommunicable diseases also continued to be intensified in order to increase public awareness and understanding.

“Therefore, it is hoped that the community can take independent measures to prevent noncommunicable diseases, one of which is to implement clean and healthy living behaviors,” he said.

Meanwhile, the government also continues to step up the Healthy Living Community Movement or Germas campaign as an effort to prevent noncommunicable diseases.

“The Germas campaign continues to be strengthened in accordance with the Presidential Instruction of the Republic of Indonesia number 1 of 2017 on the community movement for a healthy life in order to encourage the public to prioritize a promotional and preventive healthy paradigm” , he has declared.

Germas includes seven steps, namely exercising, eating fruit and vegetables, not smoking, not consuming alcoholic beverages, conducting regular health checks, maintaining environmental cleanliness, and using latrines.
