The first cooperative medical center in the region celebrates its opening in Gummersbach in Oberbergischen on Sunday (June 28th, 2020). The 700 villagers in the district of Hülsenbusch secure their own health care.
2.2 million euro project
The project cost a total of 2.2 million euros. The cooperative has 245 members and its equity is around 700,000 euros. The rest is financed through the Sparkasse.
245 builders
The medical center is to become the new heart of the village. Bernd Baßfeld is an architect and board member of the cooperative, himself a resident and visibly proud: “It is a lot of responsibility for us. Every craftsman who somehow leaves a corner here, I say to him: Look, I have 245 builders. Do you want to mess with them? And whoosh, the corner was already done. It is a completely different building. “
Dorfkneipe was the first cooperative project
For the Hülsenbuscher it is already the second cooperative model: four years ago the villagers took over the last restaurant in the village and since then everyone has been working on a voluntary basis. The idea for the medical center across the street was born in a sociable atmosphere.
