Cooking Will Not Use LPG Anymore, Cheaper Substitutes?

Jakarta

The government announced that it is continuing to work to replace the use of LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas) with coal gasification or DME (Dimethyl Ether) in household needs such as cooking. The price is also said to be cheaper than LPG.

PT Pertamina (Persero) as one of the companies that will build the DME revealed that the replacement price for LPG will be in accordance with government policy.

“Currently, the determination of the DME price is still in the study stage which will of course be adjusted to the policies issued by the government regarding the distribution of DME,” said Pertamina’s Corsec Subholding Commercial and Trading, Irto Ginting, to detik.com, Friday (12/11/2021).

Previously, the Investment Minister/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia said that DME would help improve Indonesia’s trade balance. The hope is that energy sovereignty can be slowly pushed.

“Then we can also maintain the trade balance and of course this will create jobs and added value,” he said, yesterday Thursday in a virtual press conference (11/11).

So, what is DME that will replace LPG?
