Cookie company Bahlsen writes losses in 2018 – 2019 profit targeted | 19/1/20

HANNOVER (dpa-AFX) – The biscuit company Bahlsen ended 2018 with a loss. The bottom line was a minus of 3.3 million euros, as can be seen from the annual financial statements that were published in the Federal Gazette a few days ago. Accordingly, sales fell from around 558.8 million euros to around 545.1 million euros in 2018. The “Manager Magazin” had previously reported on the numbers.

According to the magazine, the reason for the minus is, among other things, that Bahlsen has long neglected important brands. A Bahlsen company spokesman rejected this allegation on Sunday. “We have made important strategic decisions that will increase our profitability,” he told the German Press Agency. Bahlsen will close in 2019 with a “decent profit”. The spokesman could not yet give exact figures.

After the departure of company patriarch Werner M. Bahlsen in 2018, the board of the Bahlsen Group currently has three members; there is no chairman. The company is still looking for a CEO, said the company spokesman. The company spokesman did not want to comment on the report by “Manager Magazin”, according to which Daniela Mündler (46), as one of the three Bahlsen board members, would soon leave the company. Mündler is responsible, among other things, for the supply of discounters with private labels./sto/DP/he
