Controversy over Provisional Solution for Lack of Shade at 8 de Abril School in San Antonio de Benagéber

A provisional solution that has not left anyone indifferent. The problem denounced by the mothers and fathers of the 8 de abril school in San Antonio de Benagéber of lack of shade in the playground, with the risk that this entails in these last two months of the school year, when temperatures are expected to be higher , has been resolved in a way that has generated debate among parents.

While waiting for a solution that can be considered definitive, the City Council of the town of Camp de Túria has installed a tent like the ones that house the Fallas or other festive entities. The objective is that minors and their caregivers can take refuge under its shade when they go out to enjoy their recreation time.

However, this measure has been questioned by the parents themselves and has generated a debate on social networks in which the mayor of the town, Enrique Santafosta, has even participated, who has responded to those who have criticized the measure and have assured that it is not has been the best option.

The mayor, in demonstrations to THE PROVINCES, has recalled that the contracted company that was to have installed the new awning told them the same day that he was going to carry out the order that he was not going to do it. In this way, the City Council, according to the mayor, has had to contract the services of a second company to offer them this service.

Santafosta has indicated that this tent has the same measurements as the future awning (15×10 meters) and has insisted that it has all the security guarantees and certificates issued by experts that it fulfills its function and that it will not cause any kind of of problem to minors, who will be able to take refuge under its shade on days of high temperatures that are expected to be quite a few between now and the end of this school year.

Regarding when the new awning will be installed, the mayor has pointed out that the new company has set a period of between three and four weeks to be able to place it. “Logically, when you go to talk to a new company, you can’t have the structure and the awning already prepared. Some time has to pass,” he stated.

In addition, the City Council is already studying, together with its legal services, the filing of a lawsuit against the first awning installation company for the damages it has generated.

The installation of this provisional tent has generated a debate that has even materialized in a survey that the parents of school students have promoted.

On Wednesday afternoon, the majority rejected this option and voted for the point ‘I don’t think it is an adequate solution and we must fight for something worthy’. Two thirds of the votes cast by parents favored this rejection option. The other third supported the statement proposed in the survey that it is a solution “but I think we must continue to insist on something better.” Finally, none of the respondents had voted for the option ‘I agree, it seems to me a good solution’.

Parents have also finally warned about the existence of screws placed in the area and that they can cause injuries to minors when they are playing at recess, for which they have requested that protections be placed to prevent them from getting hurt.
