Controversial Incident in Zahle, Lebanon: Man Tied to Electric Pole Sparks Debate on Self-Security

“Lebanon Debate”

In an image that has begun to be repeated around what resembles self-security, pictures spread today, Wednesday, of a young man suspected of trying to steal a car in Housh al-Omara in the Zahle region, so the neighborhood youth handcuffed him, tied him to an electric pole, and distributed his picture before informing the municipal police.

This is what provoked many Lebanese, considering that when the security forces arrest any suspect, they do not defame him, but rather work to hide his face and not mention his full name.

Sources from Al-Mu’allaqa police station confirmed to Lebanon Debate that they had received a call from the neighborhood’s youth to hand him over, but they were surprised to see him handcuffed to an electric pole. They reject this method of dealing with any suspect, as their agencies do not do a similar job when arresting someone, especially since The municipal police adhere to the circulars of the Ministry of Interior that prohibit such matters.

She indicated that she “received the suspect, opened an investigation into the incident, and confirmed that the young man is of Lebanese nationality, and is from the Tamnin region, and is called M.S., who denied the attempted theft, stressing that if the charge is not proven against him, the judiciary will be reviewed to release him or continue.” By arresting him.”

Lebanon Debate refrains from publishing the photos for humanitarian reasons.
