Controversial Halloween Party Invitation Causes Uproar for Norwegian Sports Club

For many, the weekend before Halloween is a time for partying.

Costume competitions, quirky decorations, and drinks in unappetizing colors are often advertised when it’s time to send out the invitations.

The party organizer behind the Halloween party that was to be held at the clubhouse in Ålesund, however, chose to go a slightly different route.

“There will be many single Thai girls who love to party and dance,” the invitation said.

It was not particularly popular with Blindheim sports club, which rents out the clubhouse. They have now canceled the party.

– Reacts to the wording

An advertisement for the party was posted on a local Facebook page. It was there that the sports team discovered what was written.

– We react to the wording in the invitation. A different type of event is planned than what was conveyed to us when we signed the contract, says the sports team’s general manager, Petter Oseberg, to NRK.

He tells NRK that the sports team was told that this weekend’s event would be about Thai food and music. He says that they have had several good experiences renting out the premises to the Thai community in the area.

Dagbladet has been in contact with Oseberg, who says he does not wish to make any further comment.

He has given Dagbladet permission to publish the picture of the sports team’s clubhouse.

The sports team has canceled the lease for Saturday, and the announcement has now been removed from the Facebook page of the party organiser.

– Misinterpreted

The party organizers received help in making the invitations from Jan Otnes, according to NRK.

He says that he thinks it’s a shame that the party was cancelled, and that the event was only supposed to be about food and music.

– This has completely taken off. It was supposed to be an event with food and a party, but some have thought that it is about hired girls. Unfortunately, the world has become such that everything that can be misunderstood, is misunderstood, says Otnes to NRK.

He says that he understands how the wording may have been misinterpreted, but that the intention of the invitation was to get more men to come, as it is often most women who turn up at such events.

Dagbladet has not succeeded in getting in touch with Otnes for a comment.
