Reuven Niemeijer will play for Excelsior in the coming seasons. The 25-year-old midfielder has signed a two-season contract in Rotterdam.
Niemeijer, who comes over from Heracles Almelo free of charge, has completed a successful trial period in Kralingen in recent weeks. “I quickly found my place in the group and that is nice. This is of course a different environment than where I come from,” says Niemeijer on the website of his new club. “Rotterdam is not close to my familiar environment, so it will take some getting used to. But I don’t see that as a problem. I’m eager to start the competition with Excelsior.”
With his new club, the midfielder has a clear goal: “Excelsior now plays a level lower anyway, but the ambition is to go back to the Eredivisie. We will do everything for this season. And Rotterdam is of course different compared to Almelo , haha. But that is also nice. I have not yet looked around the city, but that will certainly be fine, “said Niemeijer, who only debuted in professional football at the age of 21 and was ultimately signed for four years with Heracles Almelo.
