Hryhoriy Stepanets, an American of Ukrainian origin, donated two million dollars each to the Ukrainian Catholic University and Mohyla, and another one million dollars to the Israeli IDF. Before that, it became known that Stepanets handed over to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny one million dollars, which he donated to the needs of the army.

At the UCU, ZAXID.NET journalists were informed that Grigory Stepanets bequeathed $2 million to the university. This is a pleasant surprise for them. We found out about it at the end of 2022. The law firm that dealt with the heritage order wrote to the university.
The university said that they did not know Stepanets. Probably, the man learned about the activities of the UCU from acquaintances or from the media. The university management expressed their gratitude for the “surprise”. The decision on the use of funds at the university is decided by the senate – an advisory council.
“We want to contact his daughter to learn more about him, perhaps he had his own vision of using money. Now we are working with various programs that are needed during the war, we are looking for funds for humanitarian programs,” said Natalya Klimovskaya, Vice-Rector of the UCU.
She added that the donation of Grigory Stepants is the largest among those that donors bequeathed to the university after his death.
What is known about the donor
Grigory Stepanets is an American of Ukrainian origin. He studied at the Lomonosov Moscow State University. The man was fluent in Ukrainian, Russian, German, Italian and English.
While working in Moscow, he signed a letter in support of the dissidents. For this he was fired by the Soviet authorities. He was persecuted by the KGB. In 1989, Stepanets left for the United States, where he worked as a software developer at Microsoft.
Recall, Zaluchny inherited a million dollars and gave all the funds to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
