In the evening of Tallinas Street in Riga on Wednesday, July 1, in the evening, a new cycle of events “Contemporary Wednesdays” will begin, offering a new platform for contemporary art, music, dance and poetry.

As part of the cycle, such musicians as Deniss Paškevičs, string quartet of the Sinfonietta Rīga Chamber Orchestra, piano quartet “Quadra”, harpsichordist Ieva Saliete and others will perform on Wednesdays in the quarter of Tallinas Street; there will be performances of contemporary dance choreographers, improvisations of poetry and music.

As Kaspars Lielgalvis, the curator of the Tallinn Street Quarter, tells in an interview with Latvijas Radio 3 “Klasika”, the idea of contemporary events started last summer, and their goal is to offer viewers art of various genres together.

“I have really liked since the days of” Totaldobže “that in one evening different genres, different fields are represented – music, contemporary dance, poetry, visual art,” admitted Lielgalvis.

Thus, one evening the spectator can get an exercise for their various senses, which will remain in the memory and maybe change something a bit in the person, so we will organize “Contemporary Wednesdays” so that one evening there will be a music concert and a contemporary dance or poetry show, plus you will also be able to see works of visual art. We want there to be no breaks, it is not a seasonal project, but every Wednesday in the quarter of Tallinas Street there are these events. We just want to establish a new place in Riga that people know about – if you are interested in contemporary art, music, dance, you can come safely on Wednesday, and there will always be a quality offer. The program is currently planned until the end of September, ”said Lielgalvis.
