Construction continues to decline – Novinky.cz

“While buildings have been declining for several months, the May slowdown is new for civil engineering. Larger companies managed to maintain their dynamism, but smaller companies and sole traders were significantly below the level of last May, ”commented Petra Cuřínová, head of the CZSO construction statistics.

“On the contrary, the situation in the area of building permits and housing construction has stabilized. The approximate value of permitted constructions increased and housing construction in the completion phase caught up with the April shortage, “she added.

In May, construction of 3,376 dwellings began, which is 0.8 percent more year-on-year. 2943 dwellings were completed, which represents a year-on-year increase of 15.3 percent.

The approximate value of 7625 building permits issued in May was 36.1 billion crowns.

“Even a few weeks after the start of the release of anti-coronavirus restrictions, many construction companies are facing a shortage of foreign workers, because many still have not returned to the Czech Republic,” added Evospen CEO Evžen Korec.
