Consequences of swine flu in adults and children: what to expect after recovery | NHS

Nikolai Kryuchkov is an immunologist, General Director of LLC Clinical Excellence Group, Associate Professor of the Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov.

Even after the bacterial infection is cured or its danger has passed, the consequences of swine flu can catch up – just like post-COVID, but to a lesser extent. This is especially evident in people with severe chronic diseases, immunodeficiencies and over the age of 65 years.

– Older people have the concept of “fragility” – this is the inability of the body to cope with what seems like ordinary stress, which is easily overcome by young healthy people. Therefore, it can be difficult for older people to get out of the disease, it is even worse with covid, but it can also be difficult with the flu,” says Kryuchkov. – For example, if the disease lasts two weeks, and a person, as a rule, observes bed rest, then this is very dangerous for the elderly. This helps to overcome this barrier of “fragility”, a person sharply loses the quality of life, loses appetite, lies even more, feels weak, his condition worsens in a spiral.
