KIEV Ukraine responded with fury to the calls that were voiced by members of Congress United States of America (USA) Victoria Spartaz to establish proper oversight of arms and aid shipments to Ukraine.

According to Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko, the idea is an attempt to weaken the mechanism for sending aid to Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia .

In a post on Facebook, Nikolenko noted, Spartz’s attitude was very cynical considering the congressman was from Ukraine.

“Members of Congress must stop undermining existing US military aid mechanisms to Ukraine. The Ukrainian side interacts with American partners with maximum openness, providing them with complete information on the use of technology,” Nikolenki said, claiming that further bureaucratization of the process would only help Moscow. Spartz sent a stern message to US President Joe Biden and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky earlier this week. He told them to take at least “three items of urgent action” which he believed would help “take the situation under control.”

According to Spartaz, Biden should stop playing politics, have a clear strategy and align security assistance with US strategy. Zelensky had to “stop playing politics and theater,” and start governing instead to better support his military and local government.

The third point, related to the establishment of a supervisory mechanism, seems to irritate Kiev the most.

“Congress must establish proper oversight of critical infrastructure and arms and aid deliveries,” Spartaz said.

Establishing oversight mechanisms on how money intended to help is actually spent has been requested by US politicians before. Back in May, for example, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul delayed authorizing $40 billion in Ukrainian aid, pressing for the establishment of a monitoring mechanism. Aid money would be better spent domestically, Paul argued at the time.
