Simon Pegg’s family was expectant when the actor shot “Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol”, in case he slipped after his alcohol rehab. The 50-something has been a familiar face in the UK since the 1990s, but he became a world star after being chosen to play Benji, the right arm of Ethan Hunt (the character played by Tom Cruise), in “Mission Impossible” III ”in 2006.
Before filming for the fourth episode, “Ghost Protocol,” Simon Pegg faced his drinking problem and went to The Priory Drug Rehabilitation Center. “The production team made sure my family was ready to intervene when needed,” he told the Sunday Times. One of the problems you sometimes face as an actor is the anxiety of separation. You are often far from your family. I was just having a baby and the idea of being away for a long time was bothering me, so they really helped me make sure I felt happy and comfortable. ”
“I started to have fun”
Simon Pegg said, “At the time, I was in a much, much better place. This movie couldn’t have come at a better time because I got back in shape and started having fun, working with Brad (editor’s note: Bird, the director) and Tom. It was an adventure. We have been to Prague, Dubai and Vancouver. It was part of my recovery, I think. ”
Simon Pegg played Benji for the last time in the film “Mission Impossible: Fallout”, the big hit of summer 2018. He is scheduled to be cast in the next two films in the franchise.
He also told how Tom Cruise, in particular, was very supportive of him. “I did not ask who knew (note: about his alcoholism), but I think he knew it. He has always been very supportive, ”he shared.
