Concern has been generated by the case of the young man electrocuted at the Chillán train station during the afternoon of Monday, November 6.
After the accident, the victim identified as MAF S, 21 years old, had to be transferred to the Regional Hospital of Concepción, where he is conscious and without life-threatening risk.
According to health sources in Biobío, to date, the patient is progressing and has already been transferred from the surgical Intensive Care Unit to the Intermediate Treatment Unit of the Penquista healthcare complex, where he will continue his treatment during his hospitalization period.

Along with regretting what happened, the State Railway Company (EFE) explained that the events occurred after the young man “entered the cargo maneuvering yard of the Chillán Station through an unauthorized sector, where, in turn, he boarded to the roof of a disused locomotive, reaching the railway power lines.”
The company added that, after the accident, the corresponding protocols were immediately activated with emergency services to transport the victim to a health center.
They reiterated that the passage of people to the railway facilities is not permitted. “EFE calls for the safety of the community, respecting the railway and declares that it is strictly prohibited to enter railway facilities and maneuvering areas without authorization.”
Place of incivilities
Neighbors of the sector assured that it is common for people, especially young people, to enter the grounds and warehouses of the train station to commit crimes or consume drugs and alcohol.
“The entry of people is prohibited, in fact, EFE has done everything to be able to close the perimeter, but still many people go to that place to consume drugs and other types of things, so there is a lot of irresponsibility on the part of young people who get involved. in that place do stupid things. I also feel that a bit of effort is needed from many entities because there is also the issue of what the EFE masterclass was and that land is now a vacant place where people go, things happen and it is attached to the railway, so there are several things that come together. things and that is a problem we have,” highlighted Cristina Echeverría, president of the Neighborhood Council No. 18 Ultraestación.
He added that the situation is complex for the daily lives of the neighbors, since they are victims of robberies. “Many people come there to take drugs and from there they go out to beg, to rob them and then they go to hide there and it is difficult to reach those places and catch them, that is why it lends itself to many things. For some time now we have had many assaults and robberies of neighbors in their homes and there is no greater oversight,” he said.
The president of the Neighborhood Council number 17 Station, Mirta Morales, commented that young people frequently come to the railway infrastructure sector as a meeting point either for entertainment or to commit incivilities.
“It is common that there are people almost everywhere around the lines, especially in the machinery sector where the warehouses are. Young people should not be there. In the past, people were electrocuted for stealing cables, but in this case I don’t know if it was because of that. But there are a lot of people on the line, young people of all kinds. It doesn’t cause much concern to us. On the side of the level crossing, there are many people staying in line. And in the area where they are going to build the museum, it is like a drug den. “Everyone knows that vehicles arrive there at night,” he commented.
As a result of the accident and other anomalous circumstances that affect the tranquility of the sector, the leader indicated that it is advisable to take action on the matter, highlighting, for example, the police presence.
“If this is happening with young people who are not delinquents, of course, an intervention must be made there. I have seen young people smoking marijuana on this other side (level crossing) and I reported them to the school where it belongs. I think that this entire sector from Lantaño to Lazareto must intervene regarding what is happening, especially at the passing levels. “There should be security, more police presence, going around those parts, although they are also collapsed, but in this sector, on the side where I live, there are a lot of drugged people and one even went into the headquarters where the elderly share,” he emphasized.
