Concacaf Pre-Olympic: Format, venues, schedule and what you need to know about the Tokyo 2021 qualifier – Ten

There is very little to the start of Concacaf pre-Olympic, a contest that gives tickets to two countries to be part of the Tokyo Olympics 2021, which will take place from July 23 to August 8 in the capital of Japan.

This championship for under-23 teams, which was postponed in 2020 due to the pandemic of the coronavirus, will be held in Guadalajara, Mexico, and will not have the presence of fans to prevent the spread of the Covid-19.

A total of eight national representations, including Honduras, have been divided into two groups of four teams each where they will face each other to advance to the semifinals and later to the final.

FORMAT AND GROUPS

Group A: Mexico, the United States, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic.
B Group: Honduras, Canada, El Salvador and Haiti.

Each team will play a total of three games during the first phase, facing the rest of the countries in the group. The two teams with the highest score will be installed in the semifinals of the championship.

Of the four teams competing, two will advance to the Pre-Olympic final and automatically seal their qualification to Tokyo 2021.

This is how the quadrants were distributed in the Concacaf Pre-Olympic.

LOCATIONS

The Concacaf finally determined that the Pre-Olympic would be held in two stadiums in the city of Guadalajara, in Mexico, and not in a bubble in the United States as proposed.

The Akron Stadium, home of the Chivas, will be one of the venues where five of the 15 matches to be played in the competition will take place.

The other 10 matches will be at the Jalisco stadium, where Atlas, Leones Negros del Ascenso MX and Cafessa of the Premier League compete.

Chivas’ Akron Stadium will host five Pre-Olympic games, including the tournament’s grand finale.
