María Fernanda and Luis Fabián are two young students of the Conalep Tampico who will travel to Turkey to present their project for block light with which they propose to reduce the cost of housing construction and even the possibility of avoiding a major fire.
The young people obtained the accreditation for the International Science Project Olympiad 2022after presenting his project at the Expociencias Nacional Durango 2021 Virtual, organized by the National Network of Youth Activities in Science and Technology, where they competed with 513 projects.
WHAT IS THE ECOLOGICAL LIGHT BLOCK?
María Fernanda Mariño Salas and Luis Fabián Torres Muñoz, both from the Industrial Chemistry degree, are the students who, under the advice of Rocío Livier de Leija Pimienta, designed this project that will be presented on the other side of the world.

“It is called ecological light block; it is a block that is made up of paper, tree resin and a minimum amount of cement”, explained María Fernanda during a visit she made to THE SUN OF TAMPICO.
He explained that the project arises from analyzing the needs of his own community that faces a pollution problem, mainly due to excess paper.
“Annually there are millions of tons of paper that are thrown away and we decided to use that paper to turn it into a block, something that will help the community, mainly in low-income areas,” he said.
Among the prototypes that were made, cardboard and PET bottle tokens were used, however, paper was the best option.
FIREPROOF
The second semester student stated that the block It was subjected to fire tests to check its resistance.
“It is fireproof, there would be no accidents with the block. We were doing fire tests, we used a lighter and an oven, there we verified that the fire does not damage the material, a normal block heated up completely, ”he indicated.
“Where I live the sun hits too much, my house is too hot, with this block it would help us to have a better environment and for families to feel more comfortable being at home,” added the 15-year-old girl who lives in the neighborhood Santa Elena, in the municipality of Altamira.
He pointed out that commercially his block would have a maximum cost of 10 pesos, when the normal block has a value greater than 13 pesos.
“The paper is recycled but from a sack -of cement- more than 10 blocks come out; for the construction of houses it helps us on the issue of resistance”, she stated.
THE WAR BETWEEN UKRAINE AND RUSSIA HAS PENDING THE EVENT
María Fernanda recounted that when she attended the contest in Reynosa It was the first time he had the opportunity to travel in his 15 years of life, now his sights are set on Turkey.
Although the war between Russia and Ukraine has not defined the date of the international competition; Between Turkey and Ukraine there is a distance of at least a thousand kilometers, however, Turkish airspace has been saturated due to cancellations on Ukrainian soil.
“It depends on the problems that were caused in the part there -due to the war-, they are trying to divert the flights and where we are going is below the Ukraine”, he stressed.
While the date is set, he strives to learn English to present his project and communicate in the Turkish country.
THE POSSIBILITY OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP
María Fernanda knows that she wants to study chemical engineering at the Madero City Technological Institute (ITCM) for which he considered that in entrepreneurship he will find opportunities.
“It takes a lot of work, a lot of effort, it’s a lot of responsibility but the profits and the rewards are the best of all; I feel very excited as well as my partner and our advisor, we are very happy and very excited about the trip, ”she said,
He invited young people to dare to carry out projects that allow them to break with what is considered normal.
“Wanting to get out of our comfort zone because many times we don’t throw ourselves into projects like this for fear of failing or the responsibility or the work that it entails, we decided better not to enter to avoid problems,” he said.
“I would like to invite my colleagues and any girl or boy who is motivated to undertake, it is a good opportunity and if you really make an effort you will achieve it, but above all you have to have determination,” he concluded.
The students of Conalep Tampico They have the objective set in Turkey, where with their light and ecological block they know that they can have excellent results.
