Conagua alerts potential cyclone during Saturday and Sunday

The National Water Commission (Conagua) and the National Meteorological Service (SMN) warned of potential rains in the south, southeast and east of the country, due to an instability system that is developing in the Pacific Ocean with potential to become a cyclone on Saturday and Sunday.

This system will cause damages from this Thursday night and until the middle of next week.

Jorge Zavala, general coordinator of the National Meteorological Service pointed out that they are forecast for Friday, May 29 intense rains with torrential punctuals in Veracruz and Oaxaca, very strong and intense rains in Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Hidalgo, Puebla, Tabasco and Chiapas, heavy rains with very heavy punctual rains in Campeche and Quintana Roo.

  • The rains could cause overflowing rivers and floods in Chiapas, Oaxaca, Veracruz and Tabasco, for which the population is asked to be vigilant, protect themselves and do not leave until the phenomenon ends.

For her part, Blanca Jiménez, director of Conagua, asked all the inhabitants of these states to stay tuned to the official services of the Conagua regarding the climate, and the recommendations issued by Civil Protection.

The National Coordinator of Civil Protection, David León, stated that the network of shelters in these entities is already enlisted, that if their opening is necessary, they will work with the sanitary measures established by the Ministry of Health to avoid infections by COVID-19.
