Completion of Güzelyurt Hospital

Non-Governmental Organizations, Mukhtars and some political party representatives under the umbrella of the Güzelyurt Civil Society Platform visited the Mayor of Güzelyurt and the Governor of Güzelyurt for the completion of the Güzelyurt Hospital and for the healing of the Güzelyurt Health Center 24 hours a day.

The statement made by the Güzelyurt Civil Society Platform during the visits is as follows:

“Let’s finish the Güzelyurt Hospital.

For many years, people from Güzelyurt have been taking their patients either to Cengiz Topel Hospital Lefke or to Nicosia.

Many lives were lost on the way to Güzelyurt.

There was no hospital for a mother whose child got sick at night in Güzelyurt district.

There was also no center where elderly people could get their injections done outside of working hours.

After a long struggle of the regional deputies and non-governmental organizations, the foundations of the Güzelyurt Hospital were laid in 2016 and 1/3 of the hospital was completed.

For 7 years, the construction of the hospital has been idle and abandoned.

However, the people of Güzelyurt are in great need of this hospital. In this region, people have difficulties in accessing doctors and health services.

Unfortunately, the Health Center, which started to serve 24 hours a day in 2018, started to provide half-day service again. With this state, Güzelyurt Health Center is struggling with a shortage of doctors and medicines. The people of Güzelyurt region have great difficulties in getting health services.

What needs to be done is for the government to take the issue among its priorities and to go out to tender immediately for the completion of the Güzelyurt Hospital. In the meantime, the Güzelyurt Health Center, which will form the core of the Güzelyurt Hospital in the future, is to start serving 24 hours a day as soon as possible and to eliminate its deficiencies.

We request your support in the studies to be carried out in this context.”
