Complaints about sex at Roermond nudist beach: ‘Forced to look the other way’ | Inland

CDA and LVR discussed the problem during a committee meeting on Monday. Roermond has had a popular nudist beach near the Oolderplas on the headland at the Isabellagriend for years. The Isabellagriend Naturism Foundation supervised it for years. Volunteers made sure that holidaymakers didn’t leave a mess and that no bad things happened. But the foundation dissolved itself last year due to a lack of volunteers.

According to CDA and LVR, the nudist beach is still there and “things are happening that cannot bear the daylight.” Bert Achten (LVR) told about people who are forced to “look the other way” when they walk the dog. According to him, enforcement on and around the Maasplassen is a major problem in general, especially in warm weather. “Sometimes there are ten to fifteen boats next to each other, each with its own DJ. The Maas is a free state. There is hardly any enforcement and certainly not late at night. The police in Limburg only has one boat, which has to come from Maastricht. This can no longer be the case. Then we will have to make money available for an inflatable boat ourselves.”

Capacity

Mayor Rianne Donders acknowledged the nuisance, but emphasized that the capacity to supervise the police and the municipality has its limits. According to Donders, Roermond should carefully consider what his ambitions are. “If we want more recreation, more people will come. They cause all kinds of nuisance. We don’t have the manpower to continuously check for that.”

According to the mayor, Achten’s suggestion to remove the nudist beach from the general local ordinance offers no solace, because certain people have just discovered the area. Donders said that talks are underway with a new organization for the beach, but was unable to say more about it.
