Companies Demand Ambitious Climate Policy – Newspaper | 04/26/20

BERLIN (Dow Jones) – At the start of the Petersberg climate dialogue this Monday, an alliance of more than 60 German companies is calling on the German government to combine measures to deal with the consequences of the corona crisis with ambitious climate policy. “What we need now is strengthening investment power and clear prospects,” said Bernhard Osburg, head of the steel division at Thyssenkrupp. “A climate stimulus package would be an important step in this direction.”

In a paper from the 2 degrees foundation, which is exclusively available to the Handelsblatt, it says: Now it is important to provide the economy with short-term measures to support them on their way out of the corona crisis. In order to cope with the effects of the pandemic further, it is a matter of systematically organizing economic and investment programs in a climate-friendly manner.

In addition to its members, the foundation, an initiative by CEOs, managing directors and family businesses that campaigns for climate protection, has been able to win over companies from all industries for the common appeal. In addition to ThyssenKrupp, the signatories include the steel manufacturer Salzgitter, Wacker Chemie, Allianz, Bayer, the automotive supplier group Dräxlmaier, Eon, Heidelbergcement, Puma and Telekom.
