Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common mental disorders affecting children.

However, ADHD can also affect adults.

ADHD can persist into adulthood. Some adults have ADHD but are never diagnosed.






Symptoms of ADHD include inattentiveness (inability to maintain focus), hyperactivity (excessive movements that are inappropriate for the situation) and impulsivity (hurried actions that occur at thoughtless moments).

ADHD can cause poor self-esteem and social functioning in children if not treated properly.

Adults with ADHD may experience poor self-esteem, sensitivity to criticism, and increased self-criticism may stem from higher levels of criticism throughout life.

It is estimated that 8.4% of children and 2.5% of adults suffer from ADHD (Danielson, 2018; Simon, et al., 2009). ADHD is often first identified in school-age children when it causes distraction in class or problems with schoolwork.
