Comment: Babiš has two campaigns. Opponents willingly help him with the other

The beginning of August also clearly marks the start of a sharp campaign by the ANO movement and Andrej Babiš personally. He went on the offensive during the government’s “company-wide holiday” and it seems that even at almost 67 years and after four years in the role of prime minister, he can repeat the winning sprint from the 2017 campaign.

One does not have to sigh immediately about the alleged genius of Babiš’s campaign, as we often see on social networks. Yes, his two-month ride will be effective, hard, ruthless, full of lies and seeming absurdities. Does that surprise anyone? Opponents had many years to prepare for it.

Andrej Babiš will repeat three or four topics: we added who we could. I abolished refugee quotas with Viktor Orbán. Pirates are criminals and informants. And let you not forget, we have added everyone and abolished refugee quotas. Did you hear that? We have canceled quotas. And they added to everyone.

Ok, that’s part of the thing. If the opposition has not found a recipe for overcoming this message with its own catchy campaign, it is only her problem. So far, this seems to be the case, but there are still two months until the elections, for example, someone else will wake up, because so far the most visible “anti-Babiš” campaign is led by Andrej Babiš Jr.

The opposition’s weak ability to respond to Babiš’s offensive is obvious. Her latest example was offered to us by the mayor of Prague, Zdeněk Hřib, who decided to explain to the prime minister what it is really like to increase the price of fares in Prague’s public transport.

When Andrej Babiš showed everyone in his regular Sunday video how to buy an expensive metro ticket, the administrator reacted to it. twitter account Prague Integrated Transport (PID), who warned Babiš that at his age he can travel around Prague for free. That’s pretty funny. Once.

When he decided on Twitter repeat Boletus, that was exactly when one of his advisers was to tell him, “Not now, Mayor, not now.”

“Do you understand why the Prime Minister buys a metro ticket when he has free Prague public transport as a senior over the age of 65?” The mayor asks suggestively and with the necessary infantile smiley.

Yes, we understand. To point out that you have increased the price of one-time tickets. Two months before the election, which is a great idea, by the way, you can explain that public transport in Prague has not risen in price for ten years and that the prices of prepaid coupons remain in place, so when buying a year-round ticket you can use top Prague public transport for ten crowns a day. (By the way, six years ago, during the reign of Mayor Krnáčová, it was enforced by YES, the CSSD and the Green Troika, the People’s Party and STAN.)

But Andrej Babiš does not speak to those who are now clapping their backs, as they caught him during the “embarrassment”. Thanks to Mayor Hřib, he was able to sell his simple message again. Pirates have increased your fare in Prague – yes, especially for those of you who may never take the metro in the capital. In addition, I abolished refugee quotas and added them all. Don’t forget that.

This inability to understand Babiš’s strategy is desperate. If the opposition is seriously drawn into the debate about everyone with a pardon of the nonsense that Andrej Babiš throws at them, it will always be one step back. Grandma, as we know, is able to say almost anything. And then, amusedly, to watch as everyone “seriously” goes after this “anything” and tries to prove that he is wrong or at least not completely, which is, sorry for cynicism, the same thing at the time of the peak campaign.

Unfortunately, no one has ever won an election on the number of documented truths.

From the beginning, Babiš’s campaigns were characterized by perfect work with surveys, with knowledge of what people want to hear, what they want to be afraid of, what they are willing to believe. Accordingly, Babiš’s team also determines the topics of the campaign. Even these dear strategists could probably not hope that their opponents would be willing to help them in this.
