Colomiers. Mosquito hunting continues all summer

In order to fight against the presence of common mosquitoes and tigers on the territory, the City of Colomiers implements several actions each year in public spaces and near municipal buildings. At the same time, the town hall continues to raise public awareness of the right things to do in their gardens and on their balconies.

Larval treatments

Each year, three anti-larval treatments are carried out on 18 storm basins and water bodies. The first took place at the beginning of May, a second is planned for July and a third will take place at the end of August-beginning of September.

“These treatments, carried out with a biological product, are safe for humans, the surrounding fauna and flora”, specifies the town hall. “This action is carried out by a specialized service provider, as part of an annual public pest control market (mosquitoes, Asian hornets, processionary caterpillars and pigeons)”.

Citizen actions

The most effective solution to protect against mosquitoes is to limit the stagnant water that constitutes the breeding grounds. To eradicate mosquito larvae on balconies or in private gardens, it is necessary to eliminate places where water can stagnate: small rubbish, bulky items, used tires, buckets. Renew the water in the plants once a week and empty the excess water contained in the saucers. Cover pools that are not in use and drain the water from the covers. Reduce sources of moisture (limit watering).
