Colombian Female Footballer Linda Caicedo’s Inspirational Journey in the 2023 Women’s World Cup

World Cup always keep their own stories. One of them from Colombian female footballer Linda Caicedo in 2023 Women’s World Cup.

Caicedo, who is only 18 years old, started for Colombia which faced South Korea in its inaugural match in the World Cup at the Sydney Football Stadium, Tuesday (25/7/2023) morning WIB. This is his international debut with Colombia.

Colombia took the lead through Catalina Usme’s penalty in the 30th minute, before Caicedo doubled it nine minutes later through a stunning action.

Caicedo made a solo run from the middle, then stabbed in from the left, before releasing a curling shot that goalkeeper Yoon Young-Geul could not block.

Colombia won 2-0 and Caicedo was cheered as he celebrated his goal near the stands with the crowd. Such an emotional goal for Caicedo considering his life’s journey which has not been easy.

At the age of 15, Caicedo was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. However, Caicedo did not give up and continued to pursue his career until now playing for Real Madrid.

“Well, I’m very happy, but this is also thanks to teamwork,” Caicedo said as quoted by ESPN.

“Our team was a bit nervous when we first stepped onto the pitch, because we had just started the World Cup and we wanted to win. This is very important. I am very happy to score and win.”

Linda Caicedo was born February 22, 2005 started her career at local clubs America de Cali and Deportivo Cali. His professional debut started in 2021 with a total of 13 goals in 30 matches.

He then moved to Real Madrid this year and has scored two goals in 10 appearances. Caicedo et al. who are in second place in Group H will face Germany on Sunday (30/7) which crushed debutants Morocco 6-0.
