MORE EMERGENCY RESPIRATORS

Colombian President Iván Duque received 234 respirators acquired by the Government on Tuesday to increase the capacity of the country’s intensive care units (ICUs), which is approaching the 100-day quarantine against the pandemic.

“Today the country has managed 4,658 fans, of which 2,767 have been purchased by the Ministry of Health and 1,691 by the Emergency Management Fund (FOME). Additionally, the United States Government has donated 200 fans,” said the leader.

He added that until today 877 of these respirators have arrived in the country, and that in July the Government expects 2,094 more, while in August it awaits another 977.

Duque said that 60 respirators will soon be delivered to the Atlantic and Barranquilla, and another 10 to Ciénaga, in the neighboring department of Magdalena, where infections and deaths are on the rise.

They will also send 10 more to Maicao (La Guajira) and ordered the Health Minister, Fernando Ruiz, “to deliver 300 fans this week to the city of Bogotá.”

The Mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, who is in a verbal dispute with the Duque Government over the management of the pandemic and the resources to face it, thanked the help and said that this completes “425 of the 1,400 that the Presidency has committed to to guarantee for Bogotá “.

“As long as we have a guarantee of weekly and periodic delivery of the missing, we can continue saving lives thanks to everyone’s effort,” López said.
