Kiel (dpa) – With its success against Holstein Kiel, 1. FC Köln has further expanded the statistical advantage of the Bundesliga soccer team in relegation. In the 23rd comparison, the class-higher club prevailed for the 17th time.

The second division team has only made it six times so far. Since the relegation was reintroduced, this was only possible for 1. FC Nürnberg in the first year, Fortuna Düsseldorf in 2012 and Union Berlin in 2019.

Cologne took part in the relegation for the first time, Kiel for the second time. In 2018, the Storks missed promotion with a 1: 3 and 0: 1 against Wolfsburg, this time a 1: 0 in the first leg was not enough for a team from Schleswig-Holstein to be promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time.
