Cold, earache, sore throat: these home remedies help

Doctors who use naturopathy in addition to the usual treatment methods rely on empirical medicine. For them, home remedies are a wealth of knowledge that has been passed on for decades, which sometimes lacks scientific evidence – and yet often helps.

There is little data on whether home remedies work. The “Commission E” – an independent expert committee for herbal medicinal products – has therefore made it its task to research the effects of medicinal plants in more detail. In fact, it attests that many of them are effective: sage, lavender or linseed.

Critics of folk medicine complain that many of the studies on naturopathy do not meet the criteria of scientific work: sometimes there is no control group, other times the number of study participants is negligible. They blame the placebo effect for the effects of herbal teas and wraps. Just expecting them to help will improve the symptoms of an illness. Which is actually not bad news. We believe that these seven home remedies are worth trying.
