Sonny Colbrelli was discharged from the University Cardiology Clinic in Padua, his team Bahrain-Victorious said in a press release. The 31-year-old from Brescia, followed by the team of Professor Domenico Corrado, was successfully implanted with a subcutaneous defibrillator. Colbrelli, winner of the Roubaix 2021 and current champion of Italy and Europe, had been hit by cardiorespiratory arrest on Monday 21 March at the end of the first stage of the Volta Catalunya, and treated at the Trueta Hospital in Girona by Professor Ramon Brugada: he was It was the latter who anticipated to the Gazzetta the news that to correct the arrhythmia of which Colbrelli had been a victim it would be necessary to insert the defibrillator: a decision shared and then taken by Corrado in agreement with the athlete who was in Padua from Saturday 26 March. “The athlete underwent a thorough clinical, genetic and imaging evaluation to identify the cause of the arrhythmia that led to cardiac arrest and the most appropriate therapy – explained Professor Corrado. – The decision to implant a life-saving device was shared by Colbrelli who was implanted with a subcutaneous defibrillator. The device works to correct the heart rhythm, if necessary, in extreme cases ”. The team also made it known that Colbrelli will now continue his rehabilitation at home.
