Coffee production increases from 30 to 70 quintals per hectare – Inforegion

SAN MARTIN. The Regional Government of San Martín (Goresam), through the Coffee Project executed by the Regional Directorate of Agriculture, has managed to increase the quality and production of coffee cultivation from 30 to 70 quintals per hectare, this allows it to be more competitive in the market, greatly improving the economy of farmers.

Working under the productive revolution approach, technological packages for agronomic management, fertilization and fertilization methods, techniques for identifying pests and diseases, among others, have been implemented. In addition to using fertigation and agroforestry systems aimed at obtaining greater productivity through the association of plant species (trees with agricultural crops).

Hilde Rolando Peña Sondor, a coffee producer for 18 years, migrated from her native Piura to the San Martín region in search of new horizons, settling in the El Triunfo village, jurisdiction of the San Martín de Alao district, province of El Dorado, where it has currently experienced the increase, more than double what it used to produce, in its farm called Don Rolo, where it cultivates 5 hectares of coffee in production and 01 hectare in renovation, with the technical assistance and accompaniment of the technicians of the aforementioned draft.

“We technify our cultivation with the advice of the professionals of the regional government, developing good agricultural practices with an integrated management in a sustainable way, taking into account that the coffee forest contributes to the regulation of the climate and helps to prevent erosion”, stated Peña Sondor.

“I thank the regional government for the help it is providing to farmers through the coffee project, favoring the improvement of our production, I feel that it is a great help for my family because now we can have a better quality of life,” said the farmer father of three children, the oldest in college and the latter are still in high school.
