VRAEM. Cocoa farmers promoted by the National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (Devida) began the construction of 80 compost bins in the north, center and south of the Valley of the Apurímac, Ene and Mantaro Rivers (Vraem). The objective of the project is to produce organic matter and promote care for the environment
This initiative is carried out in the crops that are in the production stage, for which the participants are strengthened in this organic input that complements the micronutrients that help fertilize the plant.
To this end, Devida delivered ten sheets of calamine and other materials to each participant, in addition to providing advice. The construction has the capacity to produce 600 kilograms per year, managing to obtain approximately 48 tons of this input per year as a whole.
For the production of compost, the harvest residues of cocoa, banana and the application of microorganisms for decomposition are used. In this way, the amount of organic waste and inorganic fertilizers is reduced and the necessary nutrients are provided for the development of plants in a natural way in a more economical way and in harmony with the environment.
In the same way, the technical team of Devida’s Cocoa Activity strengthens the capacities of cocoa producers in the production of other organic fertilizers such as biofertilizer and others that contribute to the yield of this fruit.
It should be noted that since the implementation of the Vraem 2021 Strategy, nearly three thousand cocoa and coffee-growing families managed to produce 151,600 liters of biofertilizers to improve production in 4,472 hectares of crops; INFOREGIÓN was informed.
