With ships and a plane of the Coast Guard, emergency services and Rijkswaterstraat are looking today for jerry cans with chemical substances that ended up on Thursday at the supply of a ship in the North Sea.
Yesterday warned several Zeeland coastal municipalities already for the jerry cans that can wash up on the beaches of Zeeland today or tomorrow. According to the municipalities, about thirteen pieces ended up in the sea about 40 kilometers from the coast. Some jerry cans contain a chemical.
Rijkswaterstaat and the Coast Guard have searched in the vicinity of the Oosterscheldekering today. Rijkswaterstaat late Broadcasting Zeeland know that a jerry can was found there. “But whether that is one of the barrels of chemicals that ended up in the North Sea is still being investigated,” said a spokesperson.
According to the Coast Guard, several reports have been received, but these were not the jerry cans in question. “These jerry cans were empty and may have been in the water for longer,” said a spokesperson.
People who find jerry cans themselves are requested not to touch them and to call 0900-8844.
