“CNN Fires Don Lemon After Accusations of Derogatory Comments Against Women”

FIRED: After 17 years, it’s over for Don Lemon on CNN.

CNN anchor Don Lemon has been accused in recent weeks of making derogatory comments against women. Now he has been fired.

Published:

CNN profile Don Lemon writes in a statement on Twitter that he has been told by his agent that he has been terminated by CNN.

– I am shocked. After 17 years at CNN, one would think that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly, he writes.

He further claims that he has never received any indication that he could not continue in his job.

– It is clear that there are greater forces at play. Having said that, I would like to thank my colleagues with whom I have worked. They are the most talented in the industry and I wish them all the best, he writes.

CNN confirms that Lemon is done with the channel:

– Don will always continue to be part of the CNN family and we thank him for his contributions over the past 17 years. We wish him the best and cheer him on in the future, writes the channel on Twitter.

They nevertheless refute his understanding of the matter.

– Don Lemon’s statements about this morning’s events are inaccurate. He was offered an opportunity for a meeting with management, but instead released a statement on Twitter, they write further.

The New York Times writes that Lemon’s star in the CNN sky has been declining since he made comments about women that could be interpreted as sexist.

It was Variety which in April published a major exposé about Lemon’s behavior on the channel.

According to Variety, among other things, he allegedly sent anonymous, threatening text messages to female colleagues and made derogatory comments about women.

Several anonymous sources, who are or have been employed by CNN, claim that the behavior rarely had real consequences.
