The National Commission of Human Rights (CNDH) exhorted the academic John Ackerman to respect the journalists human rights.
The CNDH’s call comes after the academic commented: “The drug traffickers are the other side of the media hired assassin,” by sharing a video related to the attack on the CDMX police chief, Omar García Harfuch.
The agency through a statement rejected Ackerman’s expressions on the social network and called him to conduct himself with civility and respect for the human rights of those who practice journalism.
The CNDH indicated that these expressions can contribute to aggravate the conditions in which journalists carry out their work.
It also reads: This is how they captured the attack on Omar García Harfuch on video
“The violence against communicators It has been extensively documented by the National Commission itself, and this is a battle that we have to fight, avoiding, among other things, the stigmatization and discrediting of communication professionals, ”the organization stated in its brief.
The Commission reiterated the relevance and work of journalists and communicators, thus highlighting the risk and vulnerability they face.
“Stigmatization and discredit (are) factors that affect the materialization of all kinds of attacks, from threats to murder of journalists and defenders, a journey that goes through fear, uncertainty, self-censorship, the closure of the media, the change of profession of journalists and defenders, and self-exile or forced mobility ”.
For which reason he spoke of the need for actions and strategies that guarantee the safety, life and personal integrity of journalists.
We make a respectful call to @JohnMAckerman so that you conduct yourself with civility and respect for #DDHH of people who practice journalism. We categorically reject these expressions that contribute to aggravating the conditions in which they carry out their work. (1/2) https://t.co/OnqpOVvMlI

Moments before the CNDH rejected Ackerman’s comments, the academic said: “Journalists who put on the coat of” media hitmen “are wrong.
He stated that his comment was directed at “those who threaten, insult, slander and put the lives of officials and communicators at risk.”
Journalists who put on the coat of “media hitmen” are wrong.
I did not mean them, but those who threaten, insult, slander and put the lives of officials and communicators at risk.
Enough verbal violence.
Let us advance on the path of peace.
