Three Amsterdam cafés partially or temporarily close their doors after consultation with the Safety Region and the GGD. At one café, a staff member continued to work while they had complaints, while at the other cafes clusters of infections were observed, the municipality reports in a press release.
The cafes that take measures are In The City on the Klein Gartmanplantsoen, No Rules on the Marie Heinekenplein and café Zwart on the Dam.
In The City, after consultation with the Amsterdam-Amstelland Safety Region, it will temporarily close for two weeks, after the café came by in the GGD’s source investigation. A cluster of ten infections probably originated in the café.
A small cluster of infections has also been discovered at No Rules. The GGD can trace at least four infections back to the café, so that location will close the bar area for the next two weeks.
In the case of café Zwart, staff members worked on for several days with complaints and recently tested positive for the corona virus. The GGD tries to find out how many visitors have recently been in the cafe, in the context of source and contact research. For the time being, the interior of the cafe will remain closed, and visitors are only welcome on the terrace.
“Stay alert and follow the corona rules”
The municipality also writes that many infections are observed in the private sphere, such as family gatherings and parties. “It is important that everyone remains alert to complying with the corona rules and that they keep a sufficient distance.”
It is not the first time that clusters of infections can be traced to catering establishments. Earlier this month, 23 infections were linked to a café in Hillegom. The virus probably spread there because people with mild complaints did not get tested, the GGD Hollands Midden reasoned.
