GILBERT- El Department of Transportation reported that due to the start of expansion work on State Route 24 there will be westbound closures on Ellsworth Road in February and March.
State Route 24, also known as the Gateway Freeway, will run five miles east from Ellsworth Road to Ironwood Drive in an area near the Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport.
Expansion work is projected to be completed by the end of 2022 and will provide drivers with a new route to the growing demand for eastbound traffic, according to the Department of Transportation.
Other closings scheduled for the weekend are as follows:
- L-101 WB (Pima) will be closed between Pima / Princess and 56th St. from Friday night through early Monday morning. Click the link to hear details.
- Westbound Interstate 10 will have two lanes closed between 32nd and 24th streets near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport from 9 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. through Saturday (February 13) for repairs. The HOV lane of I-10 Eastbound will also be closed between 24th and 32nd streets.
- The night closures at the 191 highway in Morenci begin on February 16. Drivers use this road north. The job is scheduled to take seven weeks.
