On Wednesday, State Parliament President Birgit Hesse appointed Andreas Urban, lawyer from the Hamburg law firm Heuking, Kühn, Lüer and Wojtek, as state parliament representative of the MV Climate and Environmental Protection Foundation. The aim is to examine whether there is a possibility of implementing the decision of the state assembly to dissolve the foundation.

The foundation is controversial because it is financed with Russian funds and contributed to the completion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline shortly before Russia began its attack on Ukraine. The foundation was dissolved by a state parliament resolution on March 1, 2022, but has so far failed due to legal hurdles and the board’s refusal to resign.
