Clean-up-Day – Maria Lanzendorf: Three times the 10 for a clean village

They were on the move again on Saturday morning, equipped with grabs, gloves, high-visibility vests and garbage bags. On June 10, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., 10 members of the “1piece each Lanzendorf/Maria Lanzendorf” association cleaned the Bahnzeile area (from the train station) via Wiener Straße to the roundabout/industrial area of carelessly thrown away rubbish. The result: three filled garbage bags (around 150 liters), many soda cans, some glass bottles, a cardboard box, a larger piece of metal and… a 10 euro note.

“It’s always a snapshot, of course. However, I got the subjective impression that there is a little less rubbish lying around compared to previous collection campaigns. This applies in advance to beverage cans and glass bottles. But still a big problem are the Tchicksummeln,” club chairman Manfred Leißer concluded after the event.

In fact, during the two-hour campaign, the garbage collectors collected hundreds of cigarette butts that released poison into the environment. “A task of Sisyphus. But we will continue,” promises Leißer. There are – at least virtually – ten points for the ten garbage collectors who were out and about on June 10th. The inglorious and gruesome highlight of the action: a yoghurt pot filled with human excrement. “We already know PET bottles filled with urine, but that’s a new negative highlight,” says Leißer.

The association’s next “grid square” campaign in the summer will affect the area around Billa Maria Lanzendorf and the main street in the area of the cemetery. “There are several garbage hotspots in both Lanzendorf and Maria Lanzendorf. But some, including the area around bus shelters, puzzle me, as there would usually be enough rubbish bins there,” says Leißer.

Meeting point Maria Lanzendorf train station. Shortly after 9 a.m. on Saturday, the 10 garbage collectors from the association “1piece each Lanzendorf/Maria Lanzendorf” started.
