Clashes at Russian Embassy in Yerevan: Protesters Demand Government Resignation and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s Resignation

Its participants chant slogans such as: “Nikol is a traitor!” and “Shame!” Clashes between protesters and police, according to the agency broke out at the Russian Embassy in Yerevan. According to some information, embassy employees cannot leave the building.

“It’s starting to look ominous. Dissatisfaction is expressed not only by a part of those gathered, but by all. There are calls to attack the government headquarters,” said an eyewitness. According to him, overall calm prevails in Yerevan, the tension is concentrated in the center of the city. Agencies first estimated the number of protesters in the hundreds, now in the thousands.

According to information from social networks, the clash between the demonstrators and the police also took place near the government building.

The demonstration is linked to news from Nagorno-Karabakh, where Azerbaijan is undertaking a military operation – what Baku says is an “anti-terrorist measure” – against Armenian separatists who have controlled the mountainous enclave since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The Prime Minister’s resignation was already demanded by the Armenian opposition during a wave of protests organized after the lost war with Azerbaijan three years ago, which was ended by a ceasefire brokered with Russia.
