A reduced prize list for better readability. This year, eight Music Victories are awarded during the ceremony which takes place on Friday 14 February at the Seine Music in Boulogne-Billancourt. The labels of genres – rock, electro, world music, urban music and rap – and the category “album of songs” became “album” altogether.
But this reform cringes. “It’s a shame, it’s a world that closes instead of opening up, it’s a little sad”, regrets with Agence France-Presse (AFP) Martin Meissonnier, DJ, historical producer of world music. “There are few rappers and few women [aucune dans la catégorie reine « album »], which appeared before in urban music – even if I don’t like this term – with R’n’B “, adds AFP Eloïse Bouton, journalist and founder of Madame Rap, a feminine media devoted to hip-hop.
Manu Dibango even denounced a lack of “Colors” in The world. “It’s true that it lacks a bit of diversity, we will have to work on it”, recognizes with AFP Romain Vivien, president of the Victoires de la Musique. “Perhaps the number of voters should be further enlarged” so that the panel of named artists is “More representative of the diversity and parity of our society”, Franck Riester, Minister of Culture, said on Franceinfo on Friday evening.

Both a sales star and a figure of feminism, Angèle was named in three categories – “Female artist”, “Concert” and some “Audiovisual creation” for the clip of Swing your what, where Pierre Niney plays -, but the 24-year-old young woman saw the price of the clip attributed to the PNL group for At DD and that of a female artist rewarding Clara Luciani.
Two singers also totaled three nominations each, Philippe Katerine and Alain Souchon. Candidates for “Male artist”, “Album” (respectively for confessions and Souls fifties), however, they see the “Original song” (Stone with you for the first, Almost composed with actor Edouard Baer for the second) to escape them, won by the duo Vitaa and Slimane for Ca va ça vient.
The “Scene revelation” should not escape Suzane, the most scheduled artist for the 2019 summer festival in France (32 dates). For “Revelation album”, Apple (Loopholes) seems better placed than Malik Djoudi (temperaments).
