City Hub Events – Alexandroupoli: The role of North Macedonia and Thrace – 2024-03-16 22:54:11

Yesterday’s first day of the East Macedonia & Thrace Forum II organized in Alexandroupoli by City Hub Events of the Alter Ego Media group in collaboration with Tsomokos Communications was characterized by important news and revelations.

The revelation of the trip of Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis to the USA on April 4 by the US ambassador George Tsounis and the messages sent by the Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias from Alexandroupoli about its strategic role in the wider region dominated the political news.

Business executives (Thermoelectric Komotini, Intrakat, JTI, Gastrade, Plastics Thrace, Elina, etc.) that operate in the region spoke about their investment plans in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, as well as about the challenges they face, such as the lack of infrastructure. The interventions of the speakers during the first day and the expected positions of representatives of the political and economic life of the place during the second day of the East Macedonia & Thrace Forum II aim to highlight the pivotal geostrategic and economic role of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and to explore the prospects of their future development.

Leading academics and intellectuals from Greece and abroad, representatives of large companies operating or wishing to operate in the region, as well as important representatives of the political leadership at national and local level, such as Giorgos Gerapetritis, Minister of Foreign Affairs, are also present today , Thodoros Skylakakis, Minister of Environment and Energy, Dimitris Kairidis, Minister of Immigration and Asylum and Lefteris Avgenakis, Minister of Rural Development and Food.

The main themes developed at the forum concern the transformation of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace into a regional hub of energy and trade for the wider region of Southeast Europe, the attraction of foreign direct investment to create quality jobs, as well as the attraction of talent and the improvement of tourist product of the region.
