Bargteheide. After thieves at the Kopernikus Gymnasium used a favorable moment and stole 33 tablets from the computer rooms, the city of Bargteheide will initially pay for the damage. The city representatives have now approved a corresponding urgency request. Accordingly, the city will replace the damage caused by the theft until the insurance issue is resolved.
Budget of 19,000 euros required
“There was a long discussion in the finance committee beforehand,” said Jürgen Weingärtner (SPD). It has not yet been finally clarified how the theft could have come about. According to the police, the iPads were stolen from the school building between October 10 and 19. During this period, the doors were often open due to repair and cleaning work, so that the perpetrator or perpetrators could easily gain access to the building. The finance committee finally agreed with one vote against and two abstentions that the damage will be compensated “if no one is to blame for the theft and it is a chain of unfortunate circumstances,” as Weingärtner reported.
A similar decision has now been made by the city council meeting. Because it is still unclear whether the insurance will pay for the damage. But until then, the school cannot do without digital devices. A budget of 19,000 euros is expected to be required for the replacement.
