City administration sends over 100 people in short-time work

Many Würzburg companies have already sent their employees on short-time work – from May the city administration is also forced to do so. Which areas are affected?

According to the municipal company WVV, the city administration itself is now using short-time working: “A little more than 100 people”, said personnel officer Robert Scheller on Thursday in the city council, will be affected from the beginning of May.

Short-time work has been made possible as a relief for the municipalities during the corona pandemic through the new “Covid” collective agreement for the civil service, which is initially valid until the end of the year. In the core and sovereign administration, i.e. the central tasks of the city administration, short-time working is not possible with the new regulations either.

Social and cultural workers affected

It is about employees “in independent units in the social and cultural area,” said Scheller and counted the Mainfranken Theater, the city casino, the two departments economy / science / location marketing and sport, the museum in the culture store, the city archive and the city library on. Those affected were informed about the new situation at company meetings.

Short-time work is also possible for the artistic staff of the Mainfranken Theater, for whom a separate collective agreement applies, Scheller explained: “This is continuously checked.” Those affected receive short-time benefits from the employment agency up to two thirds of the net salary, which the city increases to 90 to 95 percent depending on the pay group.
