Through a statement, the Guatemalan Chamber of Industry (CIG) expressed its opposition to the new mandatory measures decreed by the Executive Branch in light of the increase in Covid-19 cases in the country. He stressed that “prosperity stops”, so they request mass vaccination in the shortest possible time.

“We express opposition to any measure that restricts individual freedoms, affects productive activity and slows down economic recovery. This generates losses, accelerates poverty and stops prosperity ”, they point out.

As of this Saturday, September 4, the regulations to contain the rise in infections in the national territory come into effect. Among the measures, the curfew from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. the following day stands out.

Given this, the CIG indicated that the formal productive sector “has proven not to be a source of contagion, due to the successful implementation of health and biosafety protocols that they designed in support of all employees.” Of this account, he assured that the mobility restriction “generates losses, accelerates poverty and stops prosperity.”

In that sense, he demanded that the Guatemalan government fulfill the commitment to strengthen the Health System in attending to the Covid-19 health emergency. Likewise, he requested the urgent implementation of a massive vaccination plan, in extended hours to serve a greater number of people.

Along these lines, they asked for transparency in any purchase, acquisition or contracting in order to “ensure quality in public spending.”

Finally, they reiterate their solidarity with the Guatemalan victims of the virus. “We make the necessary support available to continue preventing infections and mitigating this critical health situation,” he concluded.
