In 2015, on Jalan MH Thamrin, Jakarta, the groundbreaking of the Gedung Indonesia 1 project was held. The project was inaugurated directly by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
Now, after 6 years, the 303-meter building project, which is claimed to be the tallest in Indonesia, is not finished but is in danger of stalling. The reason is that there was internal chaos within PT China Sonangol Media Investment (CMSI).
CMSI itself is a joint venture company formed by China Gladol Land and Media Group owned by Surya Paloh.
According to information from the Media Group, the chaos was related to a subsidiary of China Sonangol Group (CS), namely China Sonangol Real Estate Pte Ltd (CSRE), which is a foreign investor who is the majority shareholder.
CSRE is suspected of reneging on a cooperation agreement with a local investor, namely PT Media Property Indonesia (MPI), which is a subsidiary of the Media Group (MG). In fact, CSRE had previously agreed to carry out continuous cooperation with MPI, thus giving birth to PT CSMI to carry out the Indonesia Building 1 construction project.
Media Group CEO Mohammad Mirdal Akib explained that in the initial commitment MPI had a 30 percent stake. While the rest belongs to CSRE. The project must run, even though everything related to initial administration and so on has not been legalized. Then an agreement emerged that the next general meeting of shareholders (GMS) would be held.
However, as the development process progressed, the owner of CSMI changed. This is where it all starts to hang. The spirit of friendship that was built from the start was completely ignored by the new management of CSMI.
“Then lower the commitment to 10 percent. We are also still waiting, if there is a change like that, there must be a GMS, notification to us as shareholders,” explained Mirdal in a written statement, Tuesday (10/8/2021).
He said the construction of Gedung Indonesia 1 should be an important monumental project that is full of meaning. The name Indonesia 1 was chosen to show the world, Indonesia is one in unity after there was a polarization in the political process of the 2014 presidential election. Indonesia 1 also shows the spirit of growing together and the commitment of a friendly partnership towards investment.
