Despite contact in qualifying, which almost put an end to Johann Christofferson’s weekend, the Swedish pilot recovered and won the qualifying stage at the World Cup in Catalonia. In the final, however, he had to acknowledge the superiority of his compatriot Timi Hansen.
The qualifying for the Catalan stage began with an exciting race in which last season’s champion Timi Hansen came in last, but not only Robin Larson and Enzo Idem in four laps, but also his younger brother Kevin and the second best overall result after Johann Christoferson. , who triumphed with a margin of 3 seconds. A premature start forced Matthias Ekstrom to make two joker laps, leaving the Swede in 10th place.
In the second race, Robin Larson ‘pushed’ the rivals from the outside, resulting in Anton Marklund’s and Johann Christopher’s cars colliding and Christopher not getting up on foot on two wheels, even winning his race. Larson experienced a suspension failure while landing on the springboard, as a result of which he did not reach the finish. Andreas Bakerud won the race, despite the slowdown in the last laps.
Timo Šeider had a great start in the last qualifying race, but in the future he had to acknowledge the superiority of the competitors. Christopher, T. Hansen and Bakerud finished in the top three in both the third qualifier and the total of qualifiers, while Robin Larson was left out of the semi-finals this time, having been deducted 10 qualifying points for the Q2 incident. However, Larsons entered the start because his teammate Enzo Ide refused to participate, who does not spend the full season and does not earn points for the “KYB Team JC” team in the overall team rating.
After several unsuccessful starts in qualifying, Matthias Ekstrom had overcome clutch problems in the semi-finals and finished 3rd behind Christopher and Bakerud in the semi-finals. Ekstroms then showed great pace and defeated Bakerud in an exciting fight.
In the second semi-final race, the Hansen brothers gave up a shocking start, who took full advantage of the first row. Timmy Hansen got stuck behind Larson after a joker lap, but was able to beat his younger brother in the fight to win the race. Niklas Gronholm finished in the top three.
In the final, Christopher made his first turn as the leader, but Timmy Hansen missed Christopher with new tires at the expense of the joker’s circle strategy. In the last round, both leaders experienced contact, but maintained their positions. Kevin Hansen won third place, finishing ahead of Gronholm, Ekstrom and Bakerud.
In the overall standings of the championship, Christopher (193 points) retains the lead after seven stages, followed by Ekstrom (168), T. Hansen (140), Gronholm (135) and K. Hansen (118).
